Can you summarize your research in a simple way?

I study how bacteria eat metal in groundwater.

How long have you conducted fieldwork?

24 years.

Where have you conducted fieldwork? Which was your favorite?

Yellowstone National Park, Southeast Alaska on Prince of Wales Island, and Ocean research off the coast of the Island of Hawaii at Kamaʻehuakanaloa Seamount.

I love all of the sites they are all so beautiful

What is your favorite part about conducting fieldwork?

I love being outdoors in the forest or on the ocean, it is so peaceful and beautiful.
