I study all things that fall down in the mountains: rocks, glacier ice, or a combination thereof.

15 years.
Where have you conducted fieldwork? Which was your favorite?
Alaska, Colorado, Svalbard, Swiss Alps (research and guiding).
What is your favorite part about conducting fieldwork?
I enjoy feeling small in remote places, the physical challenges, the satisfaction of working with my hands and body, and having to rely on and build connections to everyone on the team. I also love the challenges and rewards of detailed planning (down to the last granola bar) and the improvisation that always ends up being needed, no matter how well you plan.
