Can you summarize your research in a simple way?
In my current role, I connect people, build community and make science engaging and accessible. I used to be a glacier detective - reconstructing the extent of glaciers and icesheets of the past.
How long have you conducted fieldwork?
I conducted field research for about seven years. My only fieldwork now is taking students in the field.
Where have you conducted fieldwork? Which was your favorite?
I have conducted a lot of fieldwork in Svalbard and the Alps and smaller European mountain ranges but I also spent time in the Russian Altai mountains and in the Andes. My most exciting recent fieldwork was a trip to the Central Arctic Ocean on a research vessel as part of the MOSAiC expedition, which froze an icebreaker in the Arctic Ocean for a full year.
What is your favorite part about conducting fieldwork?
I spent a lot of time in the Arctic and just love the light and vastness of the landscape. I love being outside and exploring remote places. I enjoy being tired at the end of the day and coming back to camp after a day of sampling.
