The ADVANCEing FieldSafety Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is a three-week course that focuses on:

In Week 1, we will cover:
- Preparing for and evaluating hazards in the field, identifying differences between subjective and objective hazards, and perceived versus actual risks.
- Preparing for potential emergencies in the field, developing in-team communication plans, and developing plans to meet institutional requirements for emergency preparedness.
- Developing communication strategies, such as leadership roles and styles, decision-making styles, and briefing and debriefing tools.
In Week 2, we will cover:
- Developing field team norms agreement, which we refer to as a code of conduct throughout the course.
- Understanding and implementing strategies for bystander intervention.
- Navigating inclusive mentoring and developing skills to build better and more impactful mentor-mentee relationships, whether formalized or informal within the field team.
In Week 3, we will cover:
- Understanding how individuals with diverse identities (such as race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, accessibility/ableism, culture, and socioeconomics) and the intersection of these identities, can be impacted in field environments.
- Understanding the importance of cultural inclusivity and how to navigate cultural differences in field environments.
